Customer Interviews No. 1

Find an opportunity: An idea I have so far is maybe having a pet-friendly product targeted especially towards pet owners on campus. As of right now I’m not too sure of what the product/ business will be.
People with the unmet need: The people that might have the unmet need would be pet owners on college campuses.
Questions:
Do you have a pet on campus? If not, do you have a friend with a pet on campus?
Do you believe there is enough opportunities for pet owners on campus or near campus?
Do you like meet with other dog owners and their companions?
What are some problems you face as a pet owner?
Do you have any suggestions, on ways that we could improve the situation?
Customers:
What I learned about the opportunity: I learned that the opportunity seems really promising on the UF campus and even though some people I interviewed did not have pets they wanted the same as the pet owners did. The indirect and direct benefits of a more pet-friendly campus seems to benefit pet-owners and non-pet owners.
What I learned about interviewing customers: I learned that many ideas could come from listening to your customers. I also learned that learning to ask the right question takes practice and sometimes some research.

  1. Hi Toni,

Great job on this assignment! Although I do not have pets at college, I have two dogs at home that I love. I love the idea of a more pet friendly campus because oftentimes pets can be neglected on a college campus. I'm interested to see how your idea develops. Here is my blog post if you want to check it out: http://julianakrevans.blogspot.com/2016/01/customers-interviews-no1.html

  2. Hi Toni. I enjoyed watching your interviews and trying to gather if information on whether there might be a pet owner need on campus. I'm sure there are plenty of students who live off campus that have pets and are limited with their finances. If you can think of a great low-cost option for pet owners to assist them with care throughout the day, I'd say you have a great idea, and a few takers already.

    1. Yes, I totally agree with you. I should start concentrating on off campus students. Maybe I should think about expanding my potential product to a wider audience. Thanks Christina!

  3. First off I have to ask, you can have pets on campus? I was not aware you could bring a pet to live on campus with you! I'm also really surprised that if you can, why the University doesn't have more "pet friendly" areas for those who opt in to bring their pets! I also like the idea that Christina had about off campus students, perhaps both on campus and off campus could benefit from a low cost Pet Day Care solution! Great job!!

    1. Technically you can't have a pet on campus besides small caged animals, but I think that there should be more opportunities near campus or off campus for all pet owners. I guess I should make that distinction clear in the next interview. Thanks Katy!
